My boyfriend is super-talented and award winning stylist, Dean Huby. I am going to do a hairdressing apprenticeship with Dean on the side of my teaching career, for a hobby, not a job, purely because I’m so interested in hairdressing and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.
For the last two years, Dean has been teaching me little bits about hairdressing and I’ve been doing my friends’ and sisters’ hair every now and again for years, but I need to start practising on more real people!
Because I’m not really interested in making money from hairdressing (yet!), and I just want practise, I’m offering haircuts for free and dyes, extensions, etc., at cost price. This might change in the future, but at the moment, I just want to learn and play.
I am in the process of setting up a little home salon at my Mum’s place in Buderim (Sunshine Coast, QLD, Australia), and I will post my availability (and maybe some photos as I learn new stuff, too) on this blog. I’ll try to get it up at least a month in advance, so if you’re interested in getting me to do your hair, hit me up with an Ask (or Facebook/text me if we are IRL friends) and we’ll work out a time that suits us both.
DISCLAIMER: Because of my current location being so far from any institution that offers hairdressing part-time, I can't start a real apprenticeship YET. Dean's going to teach me lots, then I will hopefully fast track through an apprenticeship when I move back to the Sunshine Coast, but I am completely unqualified and will remain so for a couple of years at least.
No, I don’t really know what I’m doing, and I’m sorry if I insult any qualified hairdressers, I just really want to do hair as a hobby, and Dean will be supervising everything I do for a long while, so you can rest assured that I won’t burn your hair off, and if I screw up your cut, Dean will fix it or show me how to. That’s about all I can promise right now, and hey, it’s a bit of fun, and it’ll grow back!
